Assam is all set to hold Khelo India Youth Games to be held from 10th January 2020 to 22nd January 2020. On Sunday, the Chief Minister of Assam –Sarbananda Sonowal launched the torch of the competition in Guwahati.
Sonowal’s dream of making the capital city of Assam as the sports capital of India can become real with the launch of the third Khelo India Youth Games. Hosting the games can prove to be a challenge as Guwahati is witnessing severe protests amidst the CAA.
Speaking on occasion, Sonowal said “Athletes from all over the country will be coming to Guwahati for the Khelo India Youth Games. The competition is a great opportunity for our athletes. On behalf of the Assam people, I would like to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju for all their support. I would like to ask the people of Assam to create an environment wherein all the athletes carry out their events in a fantastic manner.”
Director-General of the Sports Authority of India applauded the enthusiasm shown by the state government over the third Khelo India Youth Games. He also lauded the efforts made by the Chief Minister in taking an interest in the development of the sports at the national level.
The opening ceremony of the third Khelo India Youth Games will take place in the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Guwahati on 10th January 2020. There will be around eight tournament venues across the city. The event has attracted a lot of attention across the nation. Several important personalities, including the Prime Minister, have been invited in the opening ceremony.
CM Sonowal has announced cash awards for the medallists in the events, which is expected to foster the enthusiasm of the participants.
In the past, Guwahati has hosted National Games, SAFF Games and several other significant events. Conducting third Khelo India Youth Games would not only cheer the spirit of the Assam but also of whole India.
